BAGUIO CITY – A new electric vehicle (EV) shuttle system is expected to ease traffic, cut emissions and provide free transport for residents, workers, and tourists in Camp John Hay.
Dubbed the “John Hay Loop,” the service will operate three EV units that can carry up to 31 passengers each, running from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. with trips every 5 to 10 minutes.
The route covers major stops including the Main Gate, Scout Hill, Mile Hi, South Drive, Outlook Drive and Forest Lodge.
The pilot run, free of charge for six months, is part of an integrated mobility project of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), John Hay Management Corporation, and private partners from Korea and the Cordillera transport sector.
Powered by lithium-ion batteries, the units can recharge in less than 90 minutes and are designed to serve nearly 4,000 people inside the estate while attracting eco-conscious visitors.
BCDA president and chief executive officer Joshua Bingcang said the initiative strengthens Baguio’s push for sustainable transport while setting a benchmark for greener mobility in tourism estates nationwide.
