BAGUIO CITY — Getting around Camp John Hay just got greener and easier. A new pilot shuttle service called the John Hay Loop now offers free rides on electric vehicles for residents, workers and visitors to one of Baguio’s most popular destinations.
The six-month service, launched by the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) and John Hay Management Corp. (JHMC) with private partners, runs three electric shuttle units that stop at eight key locations inside the estate, including the Main Gate, Le Monet Hotel, Scout Hill, Forest Lodge, South Drive, Outlook Drive and the John Hay Golf area.
Each shuttle can carry 22 seated and nine standing passengers, and is powered by a fast-charging 70 kWh lithium-ion battery that recharges in under 90 minutes. The rides are free and designed to help reduce congestion, improve mobility and cut emissions in the pine-covered tourist spot.
The John Hay Loop is available to the nearly 4,000 people who live and work in the estate, as well as eco-conscious travelers looking for a convenient way to move between attractions, hotels, restaurants and nature areas without the hassle of driving or parking.
BCDA president and CEO Engr. Joshua M. Bingcang said the project “moves us closer to a cleaner, faster, and more connected Baguio” and could serve as a model for sustainable transport in other tourism hubs.
The service runs daily for the duration of the pilot program, and riders can hop on or off at any of the eight designated stations.
