BCDA Launches Free EV Shuttle “John Hay Loop” in Baguio
A new electric vehicle (EV) shuttle service called the “John Hay Loop” has been launched in Baguio City to promote sustainable transport within the John Hay Special Economic Zone.
The service will operate three EV units, each capable of carrying up to 31 passengers, with trips running every five to 10 minutes from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The route covers key stops inside the estate, including the Main Gate, Scout Hill, Mile Hi, South Drive, Outlook Drive, and Forest Lodge. The pilot run will be free of charge for six months as part of an integrated mobility project spearheaded by the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), John Hay Management Corp., and private partners from Korea and the Cordillera transport sector.
Powered by lithium-ion batteries that recharge in under 90 minutes, the EV units are expected to serve nearly 4,000 people daily. BCDA president and CEO Joshua Bingcang said the initiative not only supports Baguio’s green mobility efforts but also sets a benchmark for sustainable transport in tourism estates across the country.
